I am reviewing this amp because there is no info on the web about it.I had a Quad 33/303 combo.A few years ago I replaced the 33 with a Quad 44 pre and there was a good improvement.About two months ago I got the Turner B302 power amp off eBay because I couldn't afford a Quad power amp and the cost of postage from the UK is high.
The Turner cost 89 GBP plus 22 GBP postage from a seller in Dublin. The unit is heavy and seems solidly built. It is for a rack system but you don't need a rack.It must have been built in the 70s.It was built in London. The knobs and power switch work but are not up to modern standards.
Sound wise : this amp is good, the mid and upper are similar to the Quad 303 but the bass is much much better, a little bouncy but good for dance and electronica etc.Overall it was worth getting. Some vintage can go on forever :)
If you like a clinical, precise sound then the turner B302 may not be for you.Hi Fi World describes the 33/303 as "warm & wooly" and that is a sound I prefer.I don't like clinical cd sound. If you can get the Turner B302 for between 50 - 90 quid I'd say its worth a try.
Also, at 100w per channel it can go very loud!
